There are plans in place to develop Ferrybank into Hamilton’s premier river destination, creating a social hub along the river corridor with cafés, recreational spaces and retail facilities. The existing jetty is used for recreational purposes and has the potential to be used for tourism and commuter transportation. In order to ascertain the development potential of the area, CKL was called in to collect survey data and provide recommendations. One survey focused on the location and dimensions of significant trees and will be used by the landscape designers when planning out the riverwalk pathways. The second survey focused on the riverbed; identifying the position and depth of the silt layer in order to inform proposals for the upgrade of the jetty. Conventional survey equipment was utilised, but did require our surveyors to work from kayaks on the river, testing both their surveying and paddling skills.
