Southern Gateway is a 150 ha major industrial subdivision adjacent to Auckland International Airport.

Initially, CKL provided civil engineering, stormwater management, and surveying services throughout the private plan change and unitary plan process, including preparing evidence and attending hearings.

Since 2017 CKL has been engaged to lead the consultant team in the design, consenting and construction of all infrastructure and development work for the Southern Gateway Consortium, which is made up of three main landholders.

The Southern Gateway Project presented a number of considerations: the land is in a culturally and environmentally sensitive area; nationally critical infrastructure crosses the site – a fuel pipeline that carries diesel, petrol and jet fuel from Marsden Point to Wiri, Auckland; the Te Araroa Trail (NZ National Trail) borders the site, and Auckland Unitary Plan requirements set a threshold of traffic generation per hour.

The integrated project design took all of this into consideration, creating stormwater catchment areas, new intersections, bridges, and pedestrian access.

CKL is working with a diverse team of consultants to provide project management, civil engineering design, stormwater management, integrated traffic assessment, land-use resource consenting, topographic surveying and land transfer surveying services.

The result has been a commercial success with all stakeholders engaged and aligned through the process of this large and complex development environment.
