CKL was appointed in 2022 to deliver the civil engineering design for The Reef, a landmark mixed-use development at 58 Wilson Road, Waihī Beach. The project responds to growing demand for both residential housing and commercial space in one of the Waikato’s fastest-growing coastal communities.

The development comprises 16 three-bedroom town houses, 11 two-bedroom apartments, and 11 retail/commercial units, supported by on-site parking and integrated infrastructure. Designed as a modern, high-quality mixed-use precinct, The Reef contributes much-needed housing supply while creating new opportunities for local businesses and services.

CKL’s scope of work included civil engineering design from resource consent through to detailed design, engineering approval, and construction monitoring. Our work covered general civils, water and wastewater infrastructure, delivered in close collaboration with the wider consultant team responsible for planning, architectural, structural and stormwater design, as well as the project contractor.

The project presented a number of technical challenges, including integration with existing infrastructure and careful consideration of the adjacent stream environment. Through close coordination and an integrated design approach, the project team successfully navigated these constraints to deliver a practical, buildable solution that met both regulatory and site-specific requirements.

Completed in late 2025, The Reef is a strong example of a modern, integrated development that balances residential living, commercial activity and infrastructure delivery, supporting long-term growth and liveability at Waihī Beach.
