CKL shares insights on how legislative change could reshape land development in Tauranga.

October’s Tauranga Property Investors Association meeting drew a full house for Political Night, with local MPs Sam Uffindell and Tom Rutherford both in attendance. The discussion spanned a range of issues relevant to the property and development sector, including Capital Gains Tax, MMP, a potential four-year term, council spending, and a sovereign wealth fund to finance infrastructure.

For CKL, one topic stood out as particularly relevant — the progress of Resource Management Act (RMA) reform. The replacement legislation is set to significantly reshape how land use and development are managed, creating both challenges and opportunities for property owners.

Designed to simplify and speed up planning processes, the reforms will also bring a period of adjustment as new systems and requirements come into play. CKL recommends that anyone considering subdivision, land development, or intensification get in touch to discuss what the changes could mean for their property and future plans.

Early engagement is especially important, as any shift in planning frameworks can have downstream effects on design, engineering, and consenting. Understanding the direction of change now can help landowners make informed decisions and avoid potential delays later.

As proud sponsors of both the Tauranga and Waikato Property Investors Associations, CKL supports the work these groups do to keep members informed on issues shaping the region’s growth and housing landscape.

In other news, the NZ Property Investors Federation Conference baton has officially been passed to Tauranga. The 2026 conference will be hosted in Tauranga, and CKL is proud to continue its sponsorship and support for the property investment community.

“Events like these strengthen the connection between policy, planning, and practical development,” says Daniel Brown, CKL’s Auckland Planning Manager and Tauranga Branch Manager. “We’re excited to see Tauranga take the national stage and showcase the opportunities ahead for smart, sustainable growth.”
