CKL’s transportation team continues to go from strength to strength, growing their ranks with the latest appointment of Daryl Hughes as an Associate. Daryl joins the company this week, primarily based out of CKL’s Auckland office.

As a chartered civil engineer with over 28 years’ experience in the traffic and transportation industries, Daryl’s expertise will add significant value to both the company’s transportation team and CKL’s wider project portfolio.

Transportation Engineering Manager Judith Makinson says that his appointment is a strategic move for the business.

“Welcoming Daryl into the fold is part of our planned expansion in the transportation field; building on what has been achieved in the four and a half years since transportation became a CKL service.

“With a holistic team of transportation engineers and planners, CKL can readily cover a wide range of transport needs its diverse clients have across both the public and private sectors. Attracting someone of Daryl’s calibre is a real boost and we’re excited to see what we can achieve together.”

Adept at providing traffic and transportation advice on major private development projects, during his career Daryl has provided technical inputs to site feasibility, master planning and structure planning, plan changes and resource consents, including presenting expert witness statements at council hearings, Environment Court and other commissioner panels.

He was recently involved in the successful plan change applications for all three Drury East plan changes, enabling a new metropolitan centre in southern Auckland, alongside significant residential growth.

New personnel is not the only new development for the team working across the full transport spectrum, as Judith shares that they are also stepping up their use of technology.

“We’ve recently added more strings to our bow and can now offer AIMSUN as a modelling tool. This enables us to prepare larger models with wider degrees of complexity, and create visuals so that anyone can watch traffic conditions without having to read complex tables or diagrams. We are also able to model pedestrian spaces, public transport stops, cycle lanes and much more, it is not just about cars.

“As we continue to take on varied and interesting projects, there’ll be plenty of opportunities for Daryl to flex his ‘transportation muscles’ and achieve some more wins for CKL clients. Watch this space!”
