The school golf scene in the Waikato is booming, with record entries into three tournaments so far this year run by the Waikato Golf Association and sponsored by CKL.

First up was the Secondary Schools Strokeplay/Matchplay event at the Te Awamutu Golf Club from 27-29 March, with 14 schools represented. The group photo shows the six divisional winners.

Then this month has seen the Intercollegiate Teams Day tee off on the 15th at Matamata Golf Club, with 36 teams (144 players) enjoying a fun golf format of Ambrose, with a real emphasis on team work over the 18 holes. Congratulations goes to the winners, St John’s College!

Last week the third tournament kicked off, the Waikato Regional Intercollegiate Championship Day, to find the winners to represent the Waikato at the 2023 National Intercollegiate Schools Championship in late August. Seven Waikato secondary schools battled it out at the Hamilton Golf Club, with Hamilton Boys’ High School to go forward and represent the Waikato at the nationals in Timaru.

With another CKL-sponsored event scheduled for primary and intermediate schools later in November, it’s terrific to be able to support young people enjoying sport.
