CKL is proud to be supporting the Ministry of Justice and the project team led by RDT Pacific as maintenance work gets underway on the historic Hamilton Courthouse.
Located on Anzac Parade, the Art Deco building was constructed in 1931 and is recognised as a Category 2 Historic Place. It replaced the original courthouse built on the site in the 1860s and remains an important part of Hamilton’s architectural and civic history.
While the current works are not intended to return the courthouse to full operational use, they will help preserve the fabric of the building and ensure the landmark remains protected for future generations.
CKL provided transportation engineering and roading design services to support the project. This included designing a temporary construction access point from Anzac Parade to allow safe site entry during the maintenance works.
A key focus of the design was minimising both the visual and physical impact on the historic building and its surrounding environment during construction.
CKL’s transport engineering team works across New Zealand on projects ranging from urban developments and infrastructure upgrades to complex sites where careful planning is required to balance construction needs with environmental, cultural, or heritage considerations.
