Rotokauri Development, Hamilton

Over the past three years, CKL has worked closely with Rotokauri Developments Ltd to unlock the development potential of Hamilton City’s newest growth cell.

Located in the northeast quadrant of Hamilton City, the Rotokauri development will ultimately yield up to 900 residential sections, which will be developed over a 10-15 year period. The first two stages of the development have been completed and sections were introduced to the market in 2014.

While the basic framework for the development was in place under the Operative District Plan, CKL had some unique challenges to overcome. The District Plan provisions didn’t match market expectations on a number of fronts; hence CKL had to find innovative solutions to align the different expectations.

With the initial stage of development proceeding to Council’s anticipated timeframes, three-waters infrastructure was not available to the site. CKL’s engineering team worked closely with Hamilton City and Regional Council to find a number of unique and temporary solutions to extend -waters infrastructure to the site.

The presence of a natural heritage park on the southern boundary of the development set the tone for the design and character of the Rotokauri development. Soft engineered solutions were employed to create an appealing and sympathetic response to the established design objectives.

CKL has been heavily involved in the preparation of submissions to the Proposed District Plan, Hamilton City Council’s long-term plan, and Development Contribution Policy. Each of these are key elements in the successful future development of Rotokauri.

CKL is currently providing professional services for environment and subdivision consents, civil engineering design and contract administration, and all aspects of land surveying.
